Transforming Your Home With The Not-So-Humble Dining Chair!

Most people choose their dining chairs based on what they look like and whether they suit the aesthetics of the rest of the room. However, it is also essential to pick one not just based on its style, but how it feels to sit in it.

Comfort

Firstly, it is important to try out different products, whether you like the look of a Cattelan Italia dining chair, which combines both design and functionality, or a Porada one.

Ideally, you would sit in the chair to find out how comfortable they are. Some chairs have very straight hard backs, while others have a softer, more curved feel.

You need to remember that you are investing in your dining table and chairs so you can enjoy romantic dinners or fancy dinner parties. Therefore, you are likely to spend your time eating there and not rushing your meal.

Consequently, you need something that doesn’t feel uncomfortable after 30 minutes, as, if the night goes well, you could be sitting down for hours.

Posture

You should also look for a chair that gives you good posture, as this can have a big impact on your back in the long run.

A low-slung chair, for example, might be comfortable to sink into, but it might not be the best option to give you a good posture.

The University of Pittsburgh recommends a chair that offers good support for your back firstly. It is also best to find one that gives you half an inch of gap between the front edge of the seat and the back of your knees, and the seat should support three-quarters of your thigh.

A contoured seat allows for even weight distribution and you should be able to place your feet flat on the ground while sitting in it. This might not necessarily be the case for everyone who eats at your table, but you should at least consider the diners who eat them most often.

It is also sensible to look for a chair with a large backrest that can offer good support and a strong base. If you get the chance to sit in a chair for 60 minutes, this will help determine how comfortable you find it and the impact it has on your posture after being seated for a while.

Digestion

When choosing a chair, look for one that will aid your digestion. After all, you don’t want to be uncomfortable following a tasty meal.

It is best to get a chair that allows your back to be straight and doesn’t force you to have to bend forwards to eat. This enables your body to go through a process called peristalsis, a contracting of stomach and intestinal walls that helps the food to travel down and be properly digested.

If your chair is too high, forcing you to have to bend your spine to eat; it is too low and you have to stretch; or the seat is curved and doesn’t force your back to be straight, you might put peristalsis at risk.

When you are unable to digest properly, not only does it make you feel uncomfortable, but it means your body is unable to absorb the nutrients it needs from the food. Therefore, you could find yourself short on energy, constipated, gassy and with acid reflux.
