The Must-Have Features For A Well-Designed Luxury Wardrobe

The importance of the right choice of wardrobe should not be underestimated: it has a significant impact not only on the look and flow of a room, but also on your day to day life. A poorly designed wardrobe that doesn’t allow for well organised clothing and accessories is a constant source of annoyance, adding to the time it takes you to get ready in the morning.

Here are some must-have features for a modern luxury wardrobe that will allow you to get dressed with ease and never struggle to put together a stylish outfit or pack for a weekend away, business trip or holiday.

Walk-in wardrobes

A bespoke walk-in wardrobe is the ultimate luxury option, with plenty of space to store and display all your belongings and put thoughtful outfits together. They can be constructed from wall to wall, or in an L-shape in rooms with more unusual or smaller dimensions. If you have a small spare bedroom, consider converting this to a customised wardrobe.

Assess your belongings so that you can commission a wardrobe with the most appropriate internal configurations. For example, if you have a large shoe and handbag collection, you may wish to have plenty of open shelving or glass-fronted cabinets so that you can easily see them all when preparing an outfit.

If you have many longer garments such as full-length dresses and coats, then prioritise single hanging rails. If you have lots of shirts, blouses and other shorter garments, double hanging rails will make the best use of space. Include an integrated seating area and full-length LED mirrors for ease and convenience when dressing.

Fitted wardrobes

If space doesn’t allow for a walk-in option, then fitted wardrobes are an excellent choice that can offer plenty of storage. They are ideal for rooms with awkward spaces such as sloping ceilings or alcoves, because they make use of every inch of space. Floor to ceiling designs that make use of the full height of the room allow for extra storage space above the rails.

The interior can be customised to suit your individual needs, such as a combination of drawers and pull-out racks, shelves and rails.

Sliding doors Vs. hinged doors

The choice of doors is another important consideration, as it will impact on the functionality and appearance of the wardrobe. In smaller rooms, sliding doors are often the best option as you don’t have to allow for clearance space for the doors to swing out. You can also incorporate them with full-length mirror panels to create the illusion of more space.

Hinged doors are a classic option and have timeless appeal. They provide you with full access to the interior of the wardrobe at once, and allow for the addition of decorative handles for extra interest and style.

Go for durable hardwoods combined with brushed brass or chrome handles for a sophisticated look, or mirror-fronted doors for a sleek and contemporary look.
