The end of summer brings with it not only the start of autumn but a lot of particularly adverse weather that makes it tough to enjoy a set of luxury garden furniture.
Whilst the start of autumn does not immediately mean that the days of wine, roses and al fresco dinners are necessarily over, it does mean that some thought needs to be placed on planning to take care of your outdoor investment when the weather becomes more intense.
Unfortunately, whilst garden furniture is inherently stronger than its indoor counterparts, there is a risk of damage caused by rain showers and snowstorms.
Humidity can cause wood to crack and metal to rust, whilst temperature disparities can cause undue strains on materials such as glass, as well as cause some issues with fade patches. As well as this, textiles can sometimes be the ideal host for mould and mildew.
Typically, the best way to protect your garden furniture is to store it, but exactly where and how will largely depend on your home and how you use it.
If you happen to have a large conservatory with an indoor-outdoor aesthetic, then your garden furniture could be an ideal stylistic fit, but if that is not an option, storing it in a garage or storage room could work just as well.
Finally, although it is not ideal, putting it under a veranda or covering it with a tarpaulin or furniture cover could help to protect it if it cannot remain outside.
Regardless of your chosen method, make sure to clean your furniture before putting it into storage, typically by using mild warm soapy water and ensuring they are thoroughly dry before putting them away.
It may be worth taking the time to do some preventative treatments before locking them away, such as adding sealants or additional rust-resistant paint as appropriate.
